MEET THE TEACHERS

Charlotte Brohmeyer

Charlotte Brohmeyer is a Berlin-based Dancer & Choreographer. She started dancing ForrĂł in Portugal in 2016 and since then she has been very enthusiastic about it.

She went to Brazil to deepen her understanding and since then she has been teaching regular classes in Berlin and giving workshops at various events.

Tau Macedo

Tau brings up all his musicality when dancing and the result is his unique style of teaching.

Originally from Salvador Bahia, he lives currently in Berlin and performs throughout Europe with Diego Oliveira and others musicians.

Denis Veloso

Born in Curitiba Brazil, Denis started to dance as soon as he could walk. He taught salsa and bachata for over 10 years and went all around the UK, Europe and South America, sharing his skills.

Denis has started teaching forrĂł around the south west of England in 2018. His favourite part is the music, connecting with the partner and the musicality, and we cannot forget his favourite style ROOTS which is a must!

Tiago Martins

Tiago Martins is a forró teacher in Dois Pra Cá school in Porto, Portugal, and a founding member and producer of the Festival Forro Douro. He started his forró journey in 2009, besides doing several other dances, such as Samba de Gafieira, Mazurka, and many more.

In 2009, he decided to start his own project of teaching regular classes in Porto. Tiago's dance style is always very gentle, light, and filled with respect.

Jean Freri

Jean started dancing forrĂł in Toulouse alongside (and thanks to) the local dynamic community in 2017. His explorations of movements led him from Bal folk to contemporary dances through contact improvisation and tango.

His aim is to have workshops that are always inclusive and accessible for everybody, sharing the pleasures of gathering in comfort, respect, and playfulness!

Joana IlhĂŁo

Joana's dance training began in classical Ballet and Jazz Dance. While deeply experiencing Vintage Jazz (solo dance), Lindy Hop, Blues, and Balbo, she found ForrĂł and Tiago Martins and became his dance partner in 2015.

Her methodology aims to provide students with the necessary foundations for their own language, with the awareness and autonomy to improvise in the “dialogue” created by the pair during the interpretation of the music, promoting parity between follower and leader.

Michel Rodrigues

Michel took his first steps in ballroom dancing at the age of 16, in Rio de Janeiro. Shortly after, he joined Espaço Cultural Ponto de Encontro, where he began his career as a professional dancer and teacher. 6 years ago, he came to Portugal and started to teach samba de gafieira and forró.

Recently, he started a degree in Music Education at Instituto d'O Passo, where he has been researching the use of the body for musical expression, what is bringing many new possibilities to his dance and his classes.

Barbora Valtarová

Barbora started to dance in the age of 2, following the steps of her mother - a dance teacher, exploring everything from ballet and contemporary to folklor dances and contempole.

The year 2015 was a breakthrough year - she moved to Porto and discovered forró, thanks to Joanna and Tiago – another teachers of our festival. She fell in love with this dance and decided to share her passion around Czechia. Now it's been more than 8 years since she started teaching forró in Brno.

This is the first year for her as the head of ForrĂł Brno Fest 2024.

DĂłri TzakĂł

DĂłri is a dancer based in Budapest. Her fields of research include contemporary dance and forrĂł - with her main focus on innovative approaches to forrĂł dancing. In her classes she is aiming to enhance body awareness and emphasize connection.

Her journey through the forrĂł world began while living in Portugal, back in 2015. In 2018, DĂłri created and led a pioneering forrĂł community in Budapest. Having lived in Brazil for the past 4 years, she immersed herself in Brazilian culture, learning both music and dance while traveling across different regions of the country.

MEET THE BANDS

CainĂŁ AraĂşjo

Cainã Araújo, the talent of the northeastern forró. Singer, composer, and poet. He began playing accordion at the age of 9, and in 2018, a huge thing happened—Cainã conquered public opinion, and his songs were played on the city's radio stations.

After participating in a contest in the city of ItaĂşnasEspĂrito Santo, he was invited to show his trajectory outside Brazil. With heart and soul, he went to Europe, where he now resides, and presented his new authorial work, Estrada do Meu Peito (2019).

He has played at many forrĂł festivals in Europe, including those in England, Paris, Germany, and Italy.

Derico Alves

Derico Alves, Guibo, Pequeno Melo, and Gabriel Moraes are coming together to bring the magic of Brazilian music and joy to Brno.

Derico and his band ForrĂł Sapecado are having concerts around the whole of Europe. Lately, they have been based in Vienna, Austria, where they cherish the forrĂł community and bring joy due to their beautiful energy while having live music shows and DJ sets.

Their music is about an irresistible fusion of Northeastern forrĂł with a touch of modernity. Get ready to dance, sing, and celebrate with us to the sound of vibrant forrĂł.

Bob ZĂ©

Inspired by the icons of this culture, like Luiz Gonzaga, Trio Nordestino, Jackson do Pandeiro, or Genival Lacerda, the group presents a show composed of authorial songs and a diverse musical repertoire of the best of their Brazilian cultural heritage, forró.

Created by the artist Bob Zé at the beginning of 2023, the group is composed of three guys from the Northeast and one girl from São Paulo — all of them living in Hungary. Since then, it has been performing at the forrozeiros community in Budapest in projects to promote their Northeastern culture.

DJ BorĂł

DJ BorĂł is a Brazilian with a passion for the Northeastern Culture. He currently resides in MĂĽnster, Germany. Mauricio Campolina

Campolina throughout his musical career, has had the opportunity to experiment with the most diverse musical styles and instruments. His contact with the accordion began recently, less than 10 years ago, and he quickly fell in love with the complexity, independence, and sound of this instrument.

Recently, he has dedicated himself solely to Nordestino forró and its variants, including pé de serra, universitário, baião, among others. He strives to bring the audience the quality they deserve, dedicating hours upon hours to studying and researching music that will enliven couples in the room and evoke memories of their homeland, no matter where they may be.

DJ Guibo

Guibo, coming straight from the land of forró –Pernambuco, Brasil. He has been passionate about forró since he wasn't even born, being the son of a forró lover dancer and a forró musician Derico Alves.

Now he is here to bring a bit of his culture and his passion to you all, with lots of traditional forrĂł, universitario-style forrĂł, but mainly forrĂł touched by the warmth and joy of his homeland. đź’›

Amigos Do Pagode 90

We're Amigos do Pagode 90. A band based in Brno, fusion of Czech and Brazilian musicians with a shared passion for Brazilian music and forged in the melting pot of the roda de samba. The roda de samba, which translates to samba circle, is a collective experience, where we sing together and express the feelings of a people. Our goal is to share the samba's emotion, making our audiences dance and have fun.

Our repertoire spans 90's pagode hits, samba classics, choros, partido-alto and samba-rock. Our performances celebrate Brazilian culture, connecting people through music. We don't have a specific audience, we have friends that gather together and keep alive the spirit of roda de samba.

Martin Přidal

Martin's journey is a love affair with Brazilian music, which took him away to Portugal and Brazil, where he discovered the addictive forrĂł dance. But most importantly, the amazing culture and lovely people surrounding it.

You'll usually find him strumming around the world with various musical projects. Vibing with flamenco-infused guitar melodies, riffing organic trance with 8-string guitars, or serving up tropical forrĂł vibes that'll keep you grooving all night long.

From the heart of Europe to the sunny shores of Brazil, his music is a melting pot of classical melodies and Latino flair, sprinkled with a very personal touch.
